Dr. Marah Hehemann is fellowship-trained surgeon, researcher, educator and patient advocate specializing in the field of male reproductive and sexual health. She is an assistant professor of Urology at the University of Washington, and a leader in men’s health.
Dr. Hehemann believes in providing compassionate, evidence-based care in a comfortable environment where patients and their partners can discuss problems like difficulty building a family, or sexual dysfunction. She is committed to understanding a patient’s goals and works closely with her female reproductive endocrinology colleagues to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art care for men experiencing these challenges.
The conditions Dr. Hehemann most commonly treats include male infertility, prior vasectomy, azoospermia, varicocele, erectile dysfunction, male sexual dysfunction, ejaculatory dysfunction, ejaculatory duct obstruction, Peyronie’s disease and hypogonadism (low testosterone). Dr. Hehemann is an expert in microsurgical vasectomy reversal, minimally invasive sperm retrieval, microsurgical varicocele ligation, vasectomy (no-scalpel technique), penile reconstructive surgery, and penile prosthesis placement.
Dr. Hehemann graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan with degrees in biology and art history. She then earned her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois where she garnered the highest academic honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Hehemann completed her general and urologic surgical training at Loyola University Medical Center. She then completed a fellowship in Andrology, Male Reproductive and Sexual Health at the University of Washington.
Dr. Hehemann is an active member of several national and international societies including the Sexual Medicine Society of North America and the Society for the Study of Male Reproductive Health, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Video Journal of Prosthetic Urology. She enjoys being active in the field of male reproductive and sexual health as a researcher, speaker, moderator and reviewer. Dr. Hehemann has an interest in both clinical, basic science and biomechanics research and has presented her award-winning research in the fields of male infertility, male sexual health, and urologic prosthetics at several international meetings.
Outside of her clinical practice, she enjoys cooking, baking sourdough bread and spending time outdoors hiking, cycling and playing with her dog, Tilda. She is a Chicago Cubs fan and can’t wait until the next World Series win, whenever that may be.
